چکیده
Globalization has brought about concerns of domestic job losses due to outsourcing countries like China. The ‘employment footprint’ concept provides new insights into the implications trade for employment. Using this approach period 1995–2008, we analyze relation US jobs with international trade, particularly Furthermore, compare employment footprint its labor endowment assess if country could be self-sufficient in terms labor. متن کاملBarriers to Employment Among TANF Applicants and Their Consequences for Self-Sufficiency
This article examines the prevalence of potential barriers to employment using data from a longitudinal study of 1,075 Milwaukee County parents who applied for assistance from Wisconsin’s TANF program in 1999. It also examines whether those potential barriers were related to their subsequent employment and earnings. We find that many of these TANF applicants faced significant and often multiple...
متن کاملComputing Efficiency, Sufficiency, and Self-sufficiency: A Model for Sustainability?
Computing is an activity that is based on natural resources like any other human activity. Technological progress has made it possible to perform more and more computations with less material and energy input. This paper looks at this development through the lens of the three concepts of efficiency, sufficiency, and self-sufficiency, asking the question of whether it could lead to a state of se...
متن کاملRobot Learning and Self-Sufficiency: What the Energy-Level Can Tell Us about a Robot's Performance
Electrical energy is an important factor for a robotic agent when it tries to stay autonomously operational for some time. Monitoring this variable can provide important feedback for learning. In this paper, we present two diierent learning criteria based on this idea. Dealing with self-suucient agents, i.e., agents that roughly speaking have a job to do, one criterion works over cycles of iter...
